|Safe and Sound in India
We've arrived at my inlaws' house. We got in about noon yesterday, after a 27 hour journey on 2 planes, 3 taxies, a bus, and a ferry. *whew* We promptly fell asleep.
It is good to be here. the weather is perfect. More later :)

|We got Wheelz!
we rented a motorcycle today and set off to explore the island. We saw some endangered red colubus monkeys and maybe a mandrill? it was some other primate, anyway. Abhi got pulled over twice, but no tickets... his papers were in order. We went to a butterfly farm today, and the gal there told us about an excellent restaurant run by a couple of rastafari. It was the most layed back, chilled out place I have ever been. The only rasta guys I've ever met have been Americans.... they have a long way to go to work on their inner calm. The food was AMAZING! I had BBQ spiced bananas, veggie curry with local spice, and a big heap of rice. We've been eating street food most of the time here, which is divine and wonderful (and I don't know of anyone who's gotten sick off it). Tandoori lobster, "zanzibar pizza", skewers of fish, assorted flat breads, fresh fruits... this is a place to come and eat!
Tomorrow is our flight to Bangalore... pictures of the Zanzibar Adventure will be along once the flurry of activity dies down, what with seeing the family and all.

|Alive and Well in Zanzibar
I'm at an internet cafe - there will be more to say once I've got free 'net in INdiaI'm a horrible shade of sunburn pink, recovering from jellyfish stings from snorkling on the reef yesterday. Life is amazing. You should all consider a trip to Zanzibar. We randomly had a greek chef who owns a seafood restaurant in Germany stay at the same guest house our first night on the beach, so we all went in and bought a 15 kilo tuna, which he cooked for us. It was an amazing candle-light feast on the beach (or at least it was until the wind came up and eliminated the light source) thankfully we didn't need light to eat. I'm back in Stone Town for the next two days, and then we're off to India. I think we're renting a motorbike tomorrow, and planning to zip through the narrow streets here. It is amazingly cool between the buildings in the heat of the afternoon, but also very maze-like.
We're heading to teh HOuse of Wonders next, so named because it had the first electric elevators and even electric lift on the island. It was also the scene of "the shortest war in history" - which lasted 38 minutes.
More when there's more time!

|A preview of travels
We're leaving on Friday afternoon.
Sunday morning (local time) we will arrive in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Sunday afternoon or so, we will meet up with my sister and brother (who will be fresh from the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro, which they are currently climbing) and take a ferry to Zanzibar. Kris claims that it should be quite safe since the old ferry sunk earlier this year, so we'll have a new one. gack. We'll spend a day in Stone Town, then a couple of days out on the beach. Back to Stone Town, and then we part ways - Kris and John will go scuba diving on Pemba (another island just north of Zanzibar), Abhi and I will take the ferry back to Dar, hang out there for the rest of the day, and then head for India the following afternoon. We should be arriving in Bangalore on the 17th, just before dawn. Abhi wants to wait until it gets light out to catch a cab to his parents' house - he wants to see how the city has changed since he was last home. Can't say I blame him!
We'll be back from our massive travels on Jan 7. There will be more stories, I'm sure.
I'm packed and ready to go - just need to fill my bag the rest of the way with chocolates, duct tape, noxzema, and other treasure that his family wants from the US.

I haven't been using this site in a year or so - anyone still out there? I'm off on massive adventures in a week or so, I'm thinking I'll keep my travel journal here - is there anyone around who would read it?

I've got 2.5 dozen eggs available, $2.50/doz. I'll be coming through Lansing twice on Saturday - Let me know if you want some! They're available in Novi/South Lyon/Birmingham and surrounding areas any time. They are nutritionally superior (and much prettier!) to store-bought eggs :)
Now, mine won't be quite as good as this chart claims at the moment, because they don't have access to grass or bugs. They do get table scraps, veggie peels and all sorts of other good stuff, though!

|Dear person posting flyers for the return of missing soap:
I don't think anyone stole your soap. I think you left it overnight in the shower house, and it was thrown away by the cleaning crew (as per the signs on the wall) The reason I think this is simple: DAMN DIRTY HIPPIES DON'T STEAL SOAP!

with highly caustic ink. You will die. It will hurt. More news at 11.
have a good evening!
I have to work an entire day before going out for sushi with sarahbeth.
my newfound social...hmmmm... socialism is the wrong word. social, social, social.... um.... sociality? socialness? why has my brain abandoned me? anyway, my newfound proximity to old friends is awesome.

Anywhere good for sushi in Novi? Anyone want to help me track some down?
So, went to panera yesterday. Has one bite of the fat-free lemon poppyseed dressing and noticed the splenda taste. ONE BITE of that vile stuff, and I was violently ill all day. My tongue was still numb when I went to bed, and I woke up with ulcerated gums.
it really shouls have a warning label. yuck.
this is my worse reaction yet.

|Metamora CDE photos are up!
I got a couple good shots, several ok ones, and lots of "meh" - using abhi's camera and then deciding to set up near the water in a place where the horses were running towards me proved a little too much for my mad photography skillz to handle. That's ok though - I still had fun and saw some AMAZING horses :)
